My dear constituents,
It is a surprise that we have today folded exactly five curtains since we voted in, our leaders in Machakos town constituency. It's with such a pity to see that nothing has been done to us and no signs of anything to be done any sooner, it's hurting, irritating and very boring to those who mind and don't mind, we need to ask ourselves pertinent questions regarding the future and destiny of our children for as we know "twice beaten forever shy". As it has been commonly said in the recent past, people get the kind of leadership they deserve, a leadership that is among other things, visionary, selfless, just, courageous, accountable and above all inclusive and given to integrity.
None can ever move my belief; leadership is about mobilizing and empowering people to do things for themselves for the sake of their human dignity and self esteem, it is not about an individual doing things for the people for indeed that breeds sycophancy and hero worship as we do here in Machakos town constituency, rather it's about giving people hope and not blackmailing them over one's real or imaginary input in their life.
A true leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality. Leadership must be demonstrated at every level to get a head of every problem. A true leader is the one who knows the way, goes to the way,and shows the way. A true leader is one who knows that the first responsibility of a leader is to define reality then to say thank you and lastly to become a servant. A true leader should be one who wakes up very early, non quitter, confident, self given and dedicated and one who has a thing or something to show each day, a leader believes that it is more intelligent to hope rather than to fear, to try rather than not to try. A true leader has the confidence to stand a lone. If one meet all these then he/she is a true servant who qualifies to lead and to become a leader. Believe you me I have all the qualities mentioned above.
As we vouch for the leader that we deserve in 2012 let us crucify the money danglers at the alter of the ballot box. Money danglers are normally bankrupt of vision and desired leadership virtue, and that is why they normally offer to the electorate not only temporal but also irrelevant alternatives, let us seek explanation of mysterious supplies of money lest we find ourselves handling corrupted money.
Machakos town constituency, if we take money the offer we loose the moral authority and right to receive services while the money danglers loose the moral urge and obligation to give us the service. When we exchange our freedom and liberty with a morsel of food (bread), we loose both the freedom and the bread, and poverty takes the tall of us in all its dimensions.
The consequences are the scourging poverty in our society, increased insecurity and unemployment for our children and general public apathy; all of which are glaring realities in our constituency.
As a constituency we need to evaluate and scrutinize those who offer themselves for leadership and indeed avoid personalities with wanting track records.
The following describe the kind of candidates we should reject in total and they are the leaders we have now and since independence here in Machakos town.
1. A self Centered and Ego centric person
A person who believes in himself for himself and by himself. A person who lives to suppress and not build emerging leaders.
2. A Lone Ranger
Who does not believe in team work and inclusiveness.
3. Not ready
A person who is not ready to share his life with others but is rather ready to
enjoy royal privileges in total disregard of his/her countrymen/women.
4. A person who believes and lives for his/her tribe at the expense of nationalism and societal integration. Machakos town is a cosmopolitan community with no space for negative ethnicity.
5. A Tribal chauvinist with no logical agenda for the larger Kenyan society but rather a slave of traditions and short sightedness.
6. Job seeker. A leader does not look for a job but an opportunity to serve. He/she must therefore be motivated by a vision firstly embedded on a proven call to servant-hood, a humility attribute (not without assertiveness) and an all social classless' person. The said vision must be informed by the understanding of the needs of the people through living with and among them.
7. A pride seeker (boss) Leadership is not about positions of privilege but rather positions of service. A leader must be ready to soil one's hands. It must be a person whose life has been open and not concealed. A person with lots of patience and tolerance but not indecisive, firm but fair resilient and eventually compassionate on matters affecting the society
My colleague constituents you should remember that it is in-excusable to elect leaders purely based on history at the expense of the future. The overriding consideration in any decision of choice in the modern time is "POTENTIAL" more than anything else . It's not about history which could have been doctored and predetermined to influence future decisions like now. Let us discern such mischief and schemes and frustrate them at all costs.
Through a call from God to lead, I wish to submit my candidature for your vetting as your member of parliament in the 2012 general election. It will be a great honor and challenge to serve you. But with God and you in my support, we can transcend any mountain of challenge. The challenge is to discern real issues that haunt the people of Machakos town & offering subsequent solutions. The idea of Machakos town parliamentary leadership came to me in 1997 and I have carefully persued this call to date.
"And to you I offer servant leadership augmented by vision, integrity, justice and inclusively "
Yours M.P to be:
KENNEDY M. KIKUVI.
Machakos town constituency is among the largest constituency's in Kenya. Machakos town comprises of Katheka Kai (6,681), Mjini (7,495), Eastleigh (11,514), Muvuti (5,354), kimutwa (6,774), Kiima Kimwe (6,583), Mutituni (6,294), Mua (3,342), Mumbuni North (8, 758) and Mumbuni South (7,231) a combined total of 63,443. Personally I come from the Kalama area whereby so many parliamentary aspirants have heavily relied on us due to lack of presentation of our candidates for vetting, although last general election we presented candidates who went unsuccessfully. I still give Kalama people faith and hope that 2012, we will be the ones providing Machakos town constituency with an M.P.
All past winners have relied on Kalama and Muumandu parts with 24,814 votes, (9,067, 9,935 and 5,812 respectively), according to the dis-banded E.C.K the latest statistics of Machakos town is 94,839 votes. that is in the year 2007, so by 2012 the statistics is expected to rise by 40% so our expected statistics will be 132,774 votes and that is if Machakos town constituency won't be splited into two.
Despite the larger number of voters past winners have never won with more than 20,000 votes due to poor turn-out. I might be lucky if my backyard will vote for me in a block vote because now Kalama alone is comprised of Kimutwa (6,774), Kalama itself (9,067), Muumandu (9,935) and Kola (5,812)totaling to 31,588 meaning that if am fully supported by Kalama people we can make it adding a little from Machakos Mjini people.
To make Machakos town constituency, a constituency of darkness free we need to unite hence split ourselves into groups through government negotiations and help from different non governmental organizations, C.D.F, borrowed funds and commitments to oneself we will be, electricity supplied area within my five year of leadership as the Machakos town constituency Member of parliament (M.P).
Regarding roads I will rehabilitate, as well construct the already proposed for construction, and propose and begin to construct other roads all through Machakos town constituency.
i) We will rehabilitate the Katumani, Katoloni road to Machakos town as well as rehabilitate and expand the Machakos Bus Terminals.
ii) We will construct the Kimutwa, Makaveti, Kyangala, Kiatuni up to IIyuni the joinery of Machakos to Wote road (Makueni) to ensure proper trade, for assurance of economy growth which will also comply with vision 2030.
iii) Through Councilors I will ensure every ward, every year is issued with a tractor to cut and shape both residential and commercial roads which are not tarmac roads.
Through dialog with the government we will build:
i) More police stations
we will add more police officers for patrol both day and night to ensure total security.
ii) Through Chiefs,sub-chiefs,headmen and women through Barazas we will form groups called community policing to assist police.
iii) We will create self employment jobs to ensure no idleness in the constituency to minimize chances of having more, less or even no thieves.
Through active dialogue with parents, B.O.G, P.T.A, and all included students we will form a committee to serve on the interest of comprehensive education. This committees will be a collection of retired teachers, religious leaders, retired military as well as retired political leaders who among other things are: patient, humble, strong and also have had extra ordinary accomplishments in the past. Through these committees we will be able to raise extra ordinary funds to deal with plenty of obstacles that are a head of us that are hindering us from getting quality education and education developments in the constituency then in one accord and voice we will :
i) Rebuild the fallen as well as add classrooms to the congested schools.
ii) Build new schools both primary and secondary.
iii) Review and revive the school equipment scheme.
iv) Align Curricular with the nation development needs.
v) Through all means I will ensure access to quality education to historically marginalized, especially children with disabilities and girls.
vi) Ensure all the schools in the constituency have adequate:
b) Learning materials
c) Desks and chairs (for both teachers and students)
d) Electricity and water supply
In Machakos town constituency the water problem has been due to the election of leaders without vision and mission or servant-ship. In Machakos we've been supplied by two water supplies:
1. Marubu launched in the 1950's.
1. Noolturesh also known as Kilimanjaro water which was launched in 1980's
Both projects are supposed to be reviewed after every 20 years but none is done even to rehabilitate them since they were built; so:
i) I will start by reviewing and rehabilitating them.
ii) Supply them to rural and town area of Machakos town.
iii) Drill bore holes and dams to cater for all people of Machakos town constituency and their livestock and small scale farming.
After the above as it is impossible to tell you in general what we(me and you) will do, but these are amongst my plans because "divided we fall but united we rise", I will start programs like:
i) Health and H.I.V Aids and law
ii) Policy analysis and development
iii) Legal training and para legalism
iv) Legal aid and campaign analysis
v) Economic empowerment
vi) Women and youth empowerment
vii) Advocacy and monitoring research and documentation
viii) Environment (Plant trees and protect environment)
ix) Gender (push for equality)
xi) Fight crime and drug abuse amongst other things
My colleague constituents I pledge to be your servant if you elect me in 2012 election year, between you, me and God in our midst we can trascend all hills that support machakos town and are iveti; kiima kimwe and muua hills we will ascend!!.
